BethAnne vs Anti-Mormonism

 Who was Barabbas?
Back to Full Blog

At the time when Christ was taken to jail and Pilate washed his hands of the deal and let the crowd choose between Jesus and Barrabas, who had been jailed by this same group, exactly who was Barrabas?

Yeashua (phonetical spelling) is the Hebrew word which in turn the Romans using Latin came to be the name of Jesus.

However there are two parts of the names of Barabbas and Jesus missing. Barabbas first name is not mentioned neither is the last name of Jesus. I don't believe Mary and Joseph were the Christ family.

Yet if doctrinal is studied enough we find that both Barabbas and Jesus Christ had the same first name which I am spelling phonetically as Yeashua.

So when Pilate asked which of the two Yeashuas to crucify they had to chose between the living and literal Son of God and Barabbas who was claiming to be the literal and living son of God.

Barabbas had been arrested some time earlier for robbery and for claiming to be the son of God. So it only makes sense that this colleberation to remove the name from both sets of the Hebrew versions of Jesus Christ and Barabbas and the Christian version of the Cruixifiction or this would not have to be something known only to the people who do indepth study of ancient scriptures.

Let me know what your ideas are. Have a great week! Beth.

Since "Barabbas" probably means "Son of the Father," it would be a fascinating irony for Pilate to have faced two accused men named Jesus, one "Son of the Father," the other "Son of God."

HAPPY, thanks for visiting my blog I welcome any and all fresh new bloggers and my favorite old ones.

I did a bit of studying on your question and as I enquired on lds.org I received 50 possible places where in the scriptures mankind is referred to as the children of God.

I could have done sons, daughters, children etc. but I thought as we are all children of God therefore children should be sufficient in answering your question as to where in the scriptures it states that Barabbas was a son of God.

He claimed to be the literal son of God the redeemer and that was one of his reasons for being in jail.

Now this is not put in the text of the Bible. I can not tell you why it is not there but it is in other text that are just as valid as the text of the Bible; however it would mess up that sola scriptra thing of Thomisticguy and PuriCristos' and I suppose a great deal many more of the Protostant community. However if you read the Apothacra and other more recent revealed scrolls you will find that indeed both had the same first name. Jesus and since we don't know Joseph's last name we only have Jesus of Nazarath, the Christ, the Redeemer, etc. and then we have Jesus Barabbas.

I have given you these 25 scripture references to read and any of the Bood of Mormon ones you can find at lds.org.

I don't know how Bible savvey you are so I would just say if you can't find the book in the Bible it is in the Scriptures of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints aka the Mormons aka the LDS Church (non pologimists)(non reformists).

Judg. 20: 18, 26-27, 31; Moro. 8: 8-9, 12, 19; Ex. 3: 11, 13-15; 2 Ne. 2: 9, 21, 26; Moses 6: 8, 49, 54, 57; Deut. 4: 10, 25, 40; Josh. 22: 24, 33-34; 2 Kgs. 17: 7, 9, 31; 2 Chr. 13: 12, 16, 18; Rom. 8: 16-17, 21; Rom. 9: 8, 11, 26; 1 Ne. 11: 22, 24, 31; 2 Ne. 27: 13, 23, 34; Mosiah 4: 2, 6, 14; Mosiah 13: 13, 29, 34; Moro. 7: 22, 27, 32; Moro. 10: 3, 7, 25; Judg. 10: 6, 10; Ex. 2: 23, 25; Ex. 13: 18-19; Ex. 16: 3, 12; Deut. 2: 29, 37; Deut. 31: 12-13; Josh. 14: 6, 9;Judg. 4: 6, 23

So if there are any other questions please let me know. I would have printed all of the statements here but it is difficult for PuriCristos and a few others to follow along for that length of time. So I am sorry if you feel you are being sent on a wild goose chase. I just wanted to let you know why I didn't put the scriptures themselves in as opposed to the scripture references.

I hope I have quelled your curisoity. Have a great week. Beth.

Gecko, thanks for stopping by. I learned of this during one of the round table discussions on BYU television. As they are taught by the Department of Ancient Scripture and each one has their own speciality.

If I am not mistaken it is in either Our Saviour in the Gospels series or the Acts to Revelations. I am leaning towards Our Saviour in the Gospel as it focused on Christ and his ministry and Acts to Revelations focus a lot on Paul since we know very little of what Peter had to say.

And for the nay sayers out there the BYU Professors have been invited to use the BYU technology to help the process of deciphering the Apocratha and other scrolls that have been found in other cases. There are only two BYU professors, yes they are both members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints aka the Mormons aka the LDS Church (non reformists)(non pologymists). That does not negate their work on its face as they are working with many Jewish and Protastant members as well.

They are all professors trying to see if we can use these older scriptures to verify our current ones.

I know that will kill the sola scriptra theory but who can argue with proof.

Gecko take care my brother in the gospel. Beth.

You seem to be doing better. Good to hear from you.

There are so many areas where the wording in the Bible can lead those who write imaginative doctrines to take confusing paths. Just ran across one in our ongoing study of Isaiah.

Is. 53:9-11 in KJB states, "And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither [was any] deceit in his mouth.

Isa 53:10 Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put [him] to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see [his] seed, he shall prolong [his] days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand.

Isa 53:11 He shall see of the travail of his soul, [and] shall be satisfied..."

This section of the Prophet Isaiah provides extensive and detailed prophecies of Jesus Christ. To the sola scriptorian this would appear that God the Father was a sadist, pleasuring in the torture of His own Son. And happy that his Son was placed amid the apparent wealth when he died.

Certainly the Father took no pleasure from the suffering of his Son. But the Father was pleased that his Son would obediently offer such a sacrifice, meaning the sacrifice was according to the Father's wishes and will. The Father was pleased further because of the showing of love his Son exhibited. Likewise, he was pleased of the blessings that would come to his children.

Stealth I agree completely. Unless you have been to the Temple multiple times Isiah makes no sense to anyone. I learn more each time I go and Isiah begins to make sense.

I don't know why more people can't understand that the two are so linked together.

Well I had better go for now. Take care my brother in the gospel. Beth.
